Futbol Uruguayo Returns This Weekend - Nacional and Peñarol Play Sunday At 15:00

Nacional and Peñarol will be opening the return of futbol Uruguayo playing at Estadio Centenario to empty stands. Due to the stadium being closed to fans this upcoming Sunday at 15:00. The Ministry of the Interior is planning to only assign 490 personnel to the Game's security operation. Normally 800 police personnel are assigned to the "Classico" matches between Nacional and Peñarol.

Red Alert Issued: Argentine Locust Plague Within 60 Kilometers Of Border

The locust plague which has been rampant in Argentina since May has now closed to within 60 kilometers of the border appearing in the Argentine village of Federal. The Ministerio de Ganadería Agricultura y Pesca's Dirección General de Servicios Agrícolas has issued a read alert for the threat. To combat the locusts 122 planes have been made available with one already performing surveillance and three ready to begin fumigation when the enemy is sighted. (more...)

Dog Pack Attacks Merino Flock In Colonia: 15 Sheep Dead, More Still Dying

Fifteen merino sheep are dead and still more wait to see if their wounds are mortal after a dog pack attack in Colonia department (archived). All of the attacked sheep were pregnant by artificial insemination with high value genetics. The proprietor estimates a loss of 300 to 400 USD on most of the sheep with a few exceptional specimens lost in the attack presenting four figure losses.
