Former Presidents Sanguinetti And Mujica Retiring From the Senate On Tuesday

Former Colorado Party President Julio Maria Sanguinetti and former Frente Amplio President José Mujica will be retiring their seats in the Senate this coming Tuesday. Both were elected to their Senate seats last fall. Sanguinetti, President from 1985 to 1990 and 1995 to 2000, was the first elected president to take office after Uruguayans voted to end the dictatorship. Sanguinetti was born January 6, 1936 while Mujica was born May 20th, 1935.

Sanguinetti's Colorado Party rival Ernesto Talvi resigned his Senate seat back in July before he could sit in it after serving a short time as Minister of Exterior Relations.
