San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Sam Coonrod made some local headlines in for his decision not to kneel during a Opening Day moment of silence commemorating the ascension of Black Life Science1 as the new state religion in Soviet America. After the game in which the Los Angeles Dodgers beat Coonrod's Giants 8-1, Coonrod offered the following defense of his apostasy:
I'm a Christian. I just believe I can't kneel before anything besides God -- Jesus Christ. I chose not to kneel. I feel that if I did kneel, I would be being a hypocrite. I didn't want to be a hypocrite. Like I said, I didn't mean any ill will toward anyone.

With August a week away Coonrod has only made one relief appearance throwing 2/3rds of an inning and giving up two earned runs.
- The moment of silence was nominally to acknowledge the Black Life aspect of the newly dominant creed, but Opening Day taking place after the All Star Break is a acquiescence to the science-religion aspect what adherents of the new state faith refer to as science. [↩]
