US Navy Capital Ship Enters 4th Day Of Burning While Docked In San Diego

The US Navy "assault ship" Bonhomme Richard has just entered its fourth day of burning while docked for maintenance in San Diego. The Halon fire suppression system is offline for maintenance when the fire broke out while clutter and scaffolding accumulated during the ship's stay in port has substantially impeded firefighting. The center of the inferno appears to be deep in the aft V section of the hull two decks above the ship's liquid fuel storage.

So far the fire has taken down the ship's main mast and persists despite more than 400 buckets of water delivered by helicopter in addition to sea level fire suppression efforts.
