Two Kilometers Of Copper Phone Line Stolen In Melo, Cerro Largo

Phone and data services were interrupted for approximately 160 Antel customers in the barrio López Benítez in Melo, Cerro Largo after two kilometers of copper telephone cabling were taken. Restoration of service for affected customers is expected to take "varios días" per Antel's representative. Most of Cerro Largo is allegedly serviced by fiber optic cabling, but copper installations apparently persist despite the temptation they present to "recollectors" and other local scavengers.
